Aloha to Jaime Reed and LIVING VIOLET

I'd like to introduce you to another YA author who is a young adult - Jaime Reed.  From her bio,

I'm a little shy at heart, so it's a bit awkward to talk about myself. I live in Virginia, close to my mom, my older sister, my niece and the most evil cat in America. I grew up in Williamsburg, which gave me plenty of inspiration for my upcoming series, The Cambion Chronicles.

But this wasn’t my first career move. When I was twelve I wanted to be a fashion designer. When I was seventeen, I wanted to be a movie director and I took a bunch of theater classes in high school. Yet I never stop jotting all these cool ideas down. I went to college and wanted to major in film. It made perfect sense seeing as the ideas in my head were like little movies anyway. When that went bust, I came home, whipped out my old notebooks from high school, and then realized that I was a pretty decent writer with some cool ideas. And the rest is history.

Book One is LIVING VIOLET:

Samara (Sam) Marshall is determined to make the summer before her senior year the best ever. Her plan: enjoy downtime with friends and work to save up cash for her dream car. Summer romance is not on her to-do list, but uncovering the truth about her flirtatious co-worker, Caleb Baker, is. From the peculiar glow to his eyes to the Unfortunate events that befall the girls who pine after him, Samara is the only one to sense danger behind his smile.

But Caleb’s secrets are drawing Samara into a world where the laws of attraction are a means of survival. And as a sinister power closes in on those she loves, Samara must take a risk that will change her life forever … or consume it.

I am giving away a print copy of LIVING VIOLET to one randomly selected commenter.  To enter the giveaway,

1.  Leave a comment about a special summer memory as a teen or adult.

I traveled to England each summer to visit my grandmother, including the summer that Lady Diana married Prince Charles.  It was a treat to be in England at that time.

2.  This giveaway is open to all readers.

3.  Comments are open through Monday, December 19, 10 pm in Hawaii.  I'll post the winner on Tuesday, December 20.

Mahalo,

Kim in Hawaii

  4. Summers were always spent down at the coast. My Father was a Headmaster & so during school holidays he wanted to be away from the school. My parents built, or had built, a beach house. Every school holiday we were there. I loved it. My parents retired to the same part of the coast.

  5. When I was in 7th grade I went on vacation with my best friend and her family - we went to a small cottage in Canada so their father could fish. It was the first time I had been that far away but I loved all of it. Not so much their father, we were there 5 days and he caught one small fish!! And I remember being totally suprised that her mom made spaghetti with tomatoe soup - I'm Italian and was quite shocked lol.
